Hundreds of sites hosted the MS Walks 2010 and brought about a huge turnout. During most years, the Multiple Sclerosis Walks have hundreds of thousands of participants donating their time to walking for a cure. Raising both funds and awareness for MS is a full-time job. The National MS Society hosts hundreds of these events each year across the nation and some are also held by MS foundations and chapters in other countries. All volunteers and participants are recognized by the National MS Society for their hard work and perseverance during these walks.

The funds go towards Multiple Sclerosis research, public education about MS, and providing a better life for people with MS through programs and services. Each dollar raised during the MS walking events goes where it is needed most. Thanks to the many volunteers and donations received, an assortment of walking events can be created to bring people together. Anyone can join the crusade against MS. People with MS, their loved ones, and friends are all welcome to register and start walking.

Past events have been documented on video, in personal blogs, through photos posted on social networking pages, and even the news has helped to make the public aware as to what these walks are all about. Sharing the Walk MS experience is the best way to inform others about becoming active in one of these fundraising events.

How to Join MS Walks

If you decide to join a Walk MS group, visit the National MS Society’s page designated to this event. There is a map of the United States divided into 11 sections for you to choose from. After you click on a specific region, you’ll be directed to a new page with a map showing all the locations in that region where a Walk MS event is taking place. Select an orange square next to the city you are interested in and the event info will appear. The name of the walk, the chapter hosting it, and the location of the event are listed. There is also an additional link provided with more detailed information about the event.

If you have a specific month you’d like to participate during, due to weather related issues, work, or personal preference, there is an option to select a walk according to month as well. Instead of clicking on one of the orange squares next to the city name, select a month in the drop-down box above the interactive map and click the ‘submit’ button. You will then be shown a map with the new locations placed on it. The MS Walks 2010 were such a success, that the Multiple Sclerosis Walks of the future are bound to be just as promising.
