There are many different organizations that relate to the chronic neurological disease multiple sclerosis.  The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada is one of these organizations that offers many different resources for all kinds of people in Canada who are related to the disease either through personal reasons or professional reasons.  While they are located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, their website is available worldwide in more than one language.  This makes them accessible to many different people – whether they are patients, families, or doctors who are looking for information and support related to multiple sclerosis.

The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada offers a wide variety of information on multiple sclerosis.  They keep up on the latest news about the disease, including information about research being done, treatment options, and events that collect money to help with funding multiple sclerosis research and treatment.  They also have a backlog of information for people to search through.  This can be very helpful for those who are newly diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.  They can go through and see other people’s stories about living with multiple sclerosis, how other treatment plans have worked, and more.  They even have a listing of volunteer options for people who want to help the multiple sclerosis society.

The Mission of The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada

Like other organizations, The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada has a mission statement – “to be a leader in finding a cure for multiple sclerosis and enabling people affected by MS to enhance their quality of life.”  They have many different ways of doing this.  To start with, they hold special events.  These events are usually fundraisers that will help with research programs in Canada and also special programs in Canada that serve the public that is afflicted with multiple sclerosis, such as meal delivery services, financial assistance programs, self-help groups, and more.

Some of the well-known special events that The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada is known for are the MS Walk and the RONA MS Bike Tour.  These are both physical events that many people sign up for.  Completing the event is a great achievement as both a personal goal and a goal for the research of multiple sclerosis.  Family members who are personally affected by the disease can sign up, as well as people afflicted with the disease but are still physically able to participate.  People who just want to help out the cause are of course welcome to do so.  It is get together with a community and do something worthwhile with these events.
